BOOKS READ 14: NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN BY CORMAC MCCARTHY
The first two pages of this book are absolutely killer. So epic. So badass.
The whole book is badass.
I had seen the movie a couple of summers back, and I was really terrified to see it. The amount of gruesome violence implied in the trailers really scared me (I have a hard time watching violent movies) and so one summer day, I drank a couple of beers and you know it definitely ain’t so bad.
There were times in the book where I should have been held in suspense or anxiety, but because I had seen the movie, the actions became mechanical, but the movie cut out a lot of parts, really interesting parts, and they were just as gripping as watching the film.
The book has that deep south twang, one that appeals to me, a dark one that’s just telling the story, no poetic details, just the story, the only way they know how.
And I like that kind of honesty.
